Ask the Readers – Redesign of Work Happy Now
I’m gathering information for a redesign of Work Happy Now. The current theme has been outgrown by my readership as well as myself. I have no need to trash this theme because it’s been the best theme that I’ve ever used. I’m just picky and I just want the best for all my readers.
Some of the changes I will make:

Three columns instead of two
-
Color change – white background with splashes of red and orange.

I want to convey passion.

Banners in the right column to highlight popular post and ebooks.

Summaries of each post on the home page, so visitors have to click on the “read full article” link to read the full story.

I believe people will be more willing to comment if they see other people’s comments at the end of the post.

What do you think? Am I missing any changes to my website that you would like to see? Just let me know in the comments. If you’re feeling shy then just send me a message from the contact page. This blog is yours too, so give as much feedback as you want. I would like to make WHN as reader friendly as possible.

One thing I would reconsider was changing to 3 columns. I have found most 3 column blogs messy and take too much from your content.

Hey Tom, you make a good point about the three column set-up, but I’ve thought long and hard about it. I think it will work for me because I’m not going to put any text, either on the right or left column. It’s going to be just a few sparse images to draw people to other parts of my site - similiar to ittybiz. If it doesn’t work I can always go back to the two column set-up.

I personally don’t prefer 3-column themes because they look messy to me. You could also try add monetization into the site if you have enough visitors.

I agree with Tom. I’ve rarely seen good 3-column usage, it makes the content - the reason I’m here - more cluttered and discourages me. Instead, try changing column widths to give yourself a different dynamic.

Hey Canadian Developer and Jacob, looks like I have three people who don’t like the three column look. I was hoping that I might be one of the few who could keep things simple and easy to navigate, but I might have to rethink my stance. I really appreciate the input.

If you can keep 3-columns clean, I have no problem with it. I just find that most websites that try 3 columns look rather messy IMO.
I’m a sucker for clean designs though.

Hi Karl,
As you know, I use a three column. I like the fact it gives me more space for add things, and hopefully makes it easier for my readers to navigate my blog. Although some three columns are messy looking, keeping it simple can avoid this problem.
