You are quite right - it makes such a difference if the person on the phone is friendly and helpful. And you don't need to tell me about Apple :-) I don't think I would be using a computer if I had to use windows.

Hi Karl,

I agree that a pleasant employee can turn a bad situation around. One thing I learned to do many years ago is to always answer the telephone with a smile on my face. The person on the other end senses it, and even if they have a complaint, they're less apt to get mad if they know you're friendly and willing to help.

Hey Lance, sounds like Applebee's has a loyal customer. That's how encouraging the employees to accommodate the customer can do for a company. Happy employees = Happy customers.

I'll take a friendly, happy employee any day over service. Because, if service is messed up, I still feel like I can call/see/email and get the response I want. This reminds me of an experience I had at an Applebee's restaurant once. They messed up our order. But the employee and her supervisor were so friendly, and made sure we were treated with the highest level of service, and helped by taking care of most of our bill for the meal. This left a much more positive experience for me than had I just received my order as I had ordered it from either an average or grumpy employee. This actually won Applebee's more business, as we've visited several times since then, plus told several people about our positive experience in what could have been a bad experience. Our local Applebee's got it.
