Bruce Lee's quote brings so many fond memories of my Martial Arts days. I used to practice Aikido, also known as "The Art of Peace". More than anything, it taught me the very same thing that Eckhart Tolle teaches in his phenomenal audiobook, The Power of Now
I learned that in order to effectively deal with any situation, I must be fully in the moment. Anticipating my opponent's next move will play tricks on my mind. Instead I must learn to be AT ONE with what IS right here, right now. Otherwise I'll misjudge the situation and suffer. I believe this is the same thing Bruce Lee is refering to in this quote.
Problem arises when we resist what already IS. Our preconceived notions, our own ideas of what "should" be and what is "right", our heavily conditioned and compartmentalized thinking are what Bruce were refering to as "wooden prearrangements". These things get in the way of fully experiencing the Truth of what's really happening, because when we have these we fail to be OPEN, to be in the FLOW, to be in harmony with Life.

Karl, I think our relationship with ourselves drive everything else. You have to have that working first and then everything else follows. The quality of your relationship with yourself will determine the quality of the relationships you have with others.

Thanks.

Great post and I'm a fan of Bruce.

I loved the fact that he was an "integrator" ... he took the best of the best styles and made them his own (the tailoring / adapting part).

I also like the fact that Bruce was a philosopher and comedian. Most people just see Bruce the kick arse fighter.

" Our relationships dictate our happiness. If we have a great relationship with ourselves, the people in our lives, and our work, we will be happy. Adaptibility is the antidote to difficult changes." Very powerful!

Great Bruce Lee quote.

I also believe that our happiness is in direct relation to our relationships - with others and ourselves. Good relationships don't 'just happen' but require giving, kindness, attention - all sorts of good, positive actions. When we have great relationships with those we work with, it's amazing what we're able to get done and how much we can enjoy doing it.
