Karl,
I just love the purpose of your blog. I really think one of the biggest issues most people face is being unhappy with their career - and feeling stuck. I'd been there before, for quite a long time. So it's great to know there's someone like you helping others to find purpose and meaning in their careers :)

I liked your 1st response. I agree that the best way to get someone realize something is to ask them the right questions at the right time in the right manner. It's always more effective when we help someone find the answers within themselves rather than TELLING them what we think is best for them.

In my experience, all "problems" are created by us - and most often we create it in our minds. For example:
* We do an awesome job and when nobody noticed it, we think "Nobody appreciates me!"
* 3 of our co-workers go out for lunch without inviting us and we go conclude "Everyone here HATES me!"
* Our Boss asked us to revise a work we are very proud of and we go on and label him as "the Biggest Jerk in the planet"

What I've found is in order for me to be really happy, I need to learn to be Self-aware, to observe the thoughts I allow myself to believe, and to choose those thoughts wisely :)

Hi J.D., we all need a little helping hand to be happier at work. The more people that care the more likely we'll drink from the happy stream.

I like your points on lead the horse to water ... and lead by example.

Both are timeless patterns and practices that work well.

Good stuff.
