Sometimes it's hard to deal with anxiety.. But in order to fight your anxiety you should learn not to stress yourself at work, at home or anything.. Try to relax and take a deep breathe and work smoothly with your boss and colleagues. Nice one!

Hi J.D., thanks for the insight J.D. - A little more awareness goes a long way. I never really thought about the difference between my physical and mental responses. It will help me process my anxiety much more efficiently.

Hi James, I'm glad I could help.

Great reminder to listen to the tugs.

One of the most surprising things that helped me, is distinguishing between anxiety and stress. Stress is your body's response, and anxiety is your cognitive response. That one little insight goes a long way when you start to interpret how you feel. In fact, it's the secret of how people use stress to be their best, including world class athletes.

Hi Positively Present, I'm glad that you will use this idea in other areas of your life. That makes me feel good.

Hi Marelisa, I hope to be 1/10 as wise as Thich Nhat Hanh by the time I'm 80. If I make it. ;)

Hi Avani, the root cause is where we all should begin. It's usually the most painful, so we go for external fixes. Once we stop fooling ourselves and realize that we are the cause of our own pain, that's when the real learning begins.

Hi Andath, when I get locked up I get even more frustrated. It's catching our feelings early, so we can work with them that will help us adjust and learn from our emotions.

Thank you for posting this, some of it I already use but I'm going to try out the rest. I've found that when I get anxious or nervous I get locked up a lot and get nothing done. The meditation helps though sometimes it can be difficult to focus when your feeling that way.

I like the 'Practical perspective' approach. It focuses on the removing the root cause of your anxiety rather than just dealing with symptoms or uncomfortable feelings.

That's so interesting that you say to hold your anxiety like a baby. I was just watching a video interview of Thich Nhat Hanh a couple of days ago and one of the things he referred to was anger. He recommended that we hold our anger like a baby and take care of it like a mother would take care of her child. Very interesting post Karl.

Really great post about anxiety at work. I love how all of your posts, while written for the workplace, really have broader use. Not only can I use these great insights at the office, but I can apply these ideas to so many anxiety-ridden areas of my life. Thank you!
