I’m curious to know what you think of the videos that I have been posting on Work Happy Now. Are they valuable? Do they stink?

Hi Karl,
One thing I like about videos from fellow bloggers is we get to put a face to the name, as well as a voice. With that said, however, I personally prefer the written word as I take in what is written, often reading slowly, or rereading and then I contemplate the words. For me to get the most from a video, I would have to watch it several times – which unfortunately I don’t have the time to do.

I like the fact you keep getting up to bat and focusing on continuous improvement.
A couple things I might do:
1. Include tight summaries in text of the videos, so the text is the main feature, but the video is the “experience.”
2. Play with more video approaches. For example, you might make a slide deck with pictures and talk your way through.
I think videos help when there’s visual backdrop. I think there’s a difference between talking into a camera and doing a Ted Talk because of the audience and feel of the room. I think for individual video, slides + talk through, work well.

Don’t stop doing them. Just make them better. Being a translator and reading and writing all the time, I like to sit back for some inspiration and not having to read for it AGAIN. I like your video messages the way they are. But you want to be the king, then keep improving yourself. And keep us interested.

I like the videos in that, as Barbara commented yesterday, they allow us to put a “face to a name.” The videos add a human element that text can’t offer.
Text in addition to the videos, however, might help the message “sink in” for me a bit better.

You’ve got value here, Karl – no doubt. What I like is that they’re short and to the point. In an age of what can seem like information overload, being concise and getting your point across is a skill that is valued. Keep at it, my friend. And they’ll only continue to get even better.

I’d like a text transcript for all the videos if possible. For me, it’s not always convenient to watch a video with sound – reading a blog gives me more flexibility. Thanks!
Thank you for putting videos on your site. Although, I tend to read more than watch, having the option of watching the video is a neat addition.
Today, I compared this video to your newer video and to older ones. The newest one, I think, is an improvement. Being back a bit from the camera makes it look more like a professional video and less like someone sitting at their computer in front of a webcam.
If you pull out a bit more, we might be able to see more of your arms so that we can see gestures. Or perhaps you could use a combination of locations to add interest.
I love that you had the courage to ask for feedback.
I like the videos as they are. I admit to a secret interest in scanning the background, too.. what books are there on that shelf? That brings an authenticity for me, but may be a bit distracting for other people. I have a hard time sometimes, reading and absorbing written words, so your videos, when I take the time to view them, are a nice break for me. I don’t miss text transcripts – I try to just absorb it.. As you work to make the videos better, even better for us!
