(Can’t see the video? Then try watching it at Work Happy Now – The Hard, The Fun and The Beautiful – Puffy Smile Edition)

Where we are free to talk about the hard, the fun, and the beautiful of our work week.

Connecting with like minded people has been the theme of this week. So many people tell me to connect with others who are different than me. I know that it’s good to have different people in my network, but having like minded people has been more important.

I was on a teleconference this past week for a membership site. I talked about the importance of building your core foundation in order to be able to feel happiness more easily. The energy was high and I enjoyed the heck out of talking to new people.

It’s these connections help me feel at home wherever I go. Some people just make me feel loved. I love helping out people who make me feel that way.

Let’s begin…

When Do You Decide Whether or Not You are Happy at Work?

ponder-2

When you just got a raise?

When you had a fight with a co-worker?

When a client tears you a new one because they had a bad day?

When you completed a tough project?

When you slept 4 hours the night before?

There are so many ways to judge our happiness at work, but it really requires a focused mind to reflect and decide on the right things.

How Does Your Confidence Affect Your Work?

confidence-beautyI want to thank a reader (Melanie sent me a lovely email) for picking me up, giving me a pat on the butt and making me smile.

My point is this…

Confidence Affects My Work

“In order to recognize our self-image, we can no longer identify with it. In other words, we have to learn how to objectify our own mental processes.”
- Matthew Flickstein, Journey to the Center

When we have confidence in who we are, we feel like we are on top of the world. The problem is these fleeting feelings are all a big chase. I know that I’m advocating solid ideas on Work Happy Now, but sometimes I do give in to self doubt. I worry that I could be giving more value. I worry that people will get bored with the content.

These are natural feelings, but sometimes they are very hard to deal with.

Where we are free to talk about the hard, the fun, and the beautiful of our work week.

There are weeks that make you feel like you are skipping on clouds, then there are other weeks when those same clouds are smothering you.

Sometimes I feel like I’m treading along and not getting to the next level. I know that it’s just because I get locked in a worried cycle, but it’s just hard. You know what I’m talking about.

Let’s get started…

Office Dilemma – Clocking in a Co-worker

time-clockFrom the comments on this blog and the emails I’ve received I can see that we have some experienced workers who know their way around the office.

I have a scenario that I’ve been pondering.

One of your co-workers walks up to you at the end of the day. You consider this woman a friend. You go out to lunch with her once a week. She asks you for a big favor. She has been coming in late because of problems at home. Her boss has been breathing down her neck and she needs your help. She needs to come in just an hour later due to this family issue. She says that this is the only time that she will ever ask you to do this huge favor, but she really needs you to clock her in to keep her boss off her back.

You know how tough her boss can be. You used to work in her department. If she gets busted for coming in late too many times her boss won’t hesitate to fire her. Her boss has fired people for less.

Would you take the risk of helping her out?

5 Reasons to Stop Trying to be Perfect

prefection-on-booksPerfection can kill the motivation of the brightest minds. Some people just want every detail to be perfect.

I think perfection is for losers. When you try so hard to make everything perfect, you bind your creativity. Instead of putting out something wonderful, you end up putting out crap that is over processed and boring.

Greatness is not about being perfect. Being great means making mistakes, big mistakes and learning from them.

I wrote this article because I’ve been binding my thoughts and hands, which deflated my confidence. My projects went unfinished.

My presentations will always need improvement. My eShorts will need to look prettier. My teleseminars will need to give more and more value.

That’s the nature of the game. Master car technicians will always come across a problem that they can’t solve. You will have projects that frustrate you.

You need to let go of how you want your project to play out and just do what feels right instead of letting your old habits of perfection lock up your ability to take action.

I put together a list of 5 reasons why you need to stop trying to be perfect.

Who Do You Admire at Work?

who-do-u-admire-workThe person who is engaged with his/her work and works hard to finish projects?

or

The person who makes everything look easy?

or

The person who gets paid too much to do nothing?

or

The person who seems so smooth that s/he glides across the floor?

By noticing who you admire, you’ll gain a better understanding of who you are and how to use this information to your advantage.

If you admire someone who makes work look easy – you are probably a very intelligent person.

Now if you admire someone who is tenacious and does anything to get a job done – you are probably a motivated person.

How to Find Meaning in Tedious Work

find-meaning-in-tedious-workYour tasks may not be making you unhappy at work, but they may not be making you happy either.

One thing I’ve learned over the past three years of researching work happiness is that work doesn’t make you unhappy. Only you can do that.

But what about great work?

Does work that fits with your passion and strengths make you happy?

For me it’s a resounding – Yes!

The reason is that I am able to feel connected with this type of work.

Doing great work does make me happier. When I’m working on a blog post that I know will change people’s lives for the better, I feel happy and excited.
