Holiday Stress Relief Tips that Last All Year Long
Editor’s note: This is a guest post by Eileen Habelow, Ph.D. of Randstad
December is one of those contradictory months during which we use the most vacation time but feel the most stressed. Why is this? Add up the limited time in the office, the fact that everyone on vacation isn’t responding to email or voicemail and the personal workload of holiday shopping and cooking, and you have your answer.
But the question isn’t why we’re stressed but what we can do about it. While you’re still at the office this holiday season, here are a few tips to keep the stress level down and the cheer up.

How to Deal with the Daily Grind Between Now and the Holiday Season
Editor’s note: This is a guest post by Eileen Habelow of Randstad
Labor Day has come and gone and so has summer vacation. If you’re like most full-time employees you won’t have another break until Thanksgiving or perhaps even Christmas, and the thought of that three month stretch could be just short of terrifying.
But I have good news. The beginning of fall can feel like just that – a new beginning. Randstad’s latest Work Monitor survey shows that 73 percent of employees believe they perform noticeably better at work after they’ve had a few days off. That means even a short break such as long fall weekend could give you the jump start you need to stay motivated until the holidays, as long as you start it off right.
For generations people of all ages have struggled with the “back-to-school” grind that comes with fall, so why not adopt a few best practices that have worked for hundreds of people (regardless of age) around this time every year? Dive into a new “school” year armed with a few old-school habits.

Going to Iceland
I’ll be in Iceland all next week for a work happy conference. Just kidding. But I will bring back some juicy tidbits about how the Icelanders work. So tune into WorkHappyNow at the end of April to learn a few tips on working happier from some of the happiest people on earth. (quote from travel book to Iceland)
I’m traveling to the Land of Ice for my grandmother’s 80th birthday. I’m looking forward to seeing all my family. My mother was born there, so I have aunts, uncles and cousins all over Reykjavik. It’s been over six years since I’ve last seen everyone.
Please don’t worry about missing my posts. I’m taking care of you. I’ll be “time stamping “ two posts so they publish while I’m gone. They will be about the importance of creating a design friendly atmosphere to inspire employees on Monday and “Wooing” employees to keep them happy on Thursday.
They do have the internet there, so I’ll do my best to accept and respond to any comments. I’ll see all of you when I get back. So work happy and enjoy a week of work while I’m basking in the hot springs of the Blue Lagoon.
We all need a vacation every now and again. So where is your next vacation to rejuvenate your mind, body and soul?
